St. Norbert College Students to Visit Miami for TRIPS Service Program

Five St. Norbert College students and one faculty members will visit Miami, Fla. from Saturday, Jan. 16 to Saturday Jan. 23, as part of the TRIPS alternative break service program. While there, the participants will work with a K-8 teacher while learning about the traditional Catholic school structure and the Hispanic and Cuban cultures. Students will participate in hands-on teaching experiences including preparing and implementing lesson plans and working in small groups with students.

Trip Leaders: Aly Tomey (West Bend, Wis.), Carolyn Schaeffer, part-time assistant professor of education.
Other Participants: Emma Dickinson (Madison, Wis.), Sarah Laufer (West Bend, Wis.), Peter Schnell (Lake In The Hills, Ill.) and Ben Vande Zande (West Bend, Wis.)
TRIPS (an acronym for Turning Responsibility Into Powerful Service) is an alternative break program organized by the Sturzl Center for Community Service and Learning at St. Norbert College. It is designed to give students the opportunity to put their beliefs into action through service and solidarity with various communities. TRIPS challenges students to participate in a week or more of service in areas throughout the United States and the world.
