Next Stage, St. Norbert College's summer musical theatre program for high school students, will be holding auditions in the first week of June for its summer 2016 production of "Miss Saigon." The production will be the second annual Next Stage show, following the success of the program's inaugural production of George Gershwin's musical "Crazy for You" in 2015.

"Miss Saigon" is a hit musical that retells the story of Giacomo Puccini's opera "Madame Butterfly," examining love, loss and clashing cultures through the doomed relationship between a Vietnamese woman and an American GI during the Vietnam War. The Next Stage production of "Miss Saigon" will open Thursday, August 11, and run through Sunday, August 14.

Orchestra auditions will take place on Saturday, June 4 and Sunday, June 5, from 1-4 p.m. in the Walter Theatre of the Abbot Pennings Hall of Fine Arts on the St. Norbert College campus. On-stage auditions for singers and actors will take place on Monday, June 6 and Tuesday, June 7, at 6:30 p.m. at Dudley Birder Hall on the college campus. To register for auditions, visit http://www.snc.edu/nextstage/. There is no registration fee for the program, although cast members may be responsible for purchasing low-cost apparel or other materials.

The production is also looking for stage and technical crews, and adult volunteers to help with tasks such as costumes, house management, lighting, make-up and hair, production management, props, running crew, set building and painting, sound and ushering.

Next Stage offers young performers the chance to experience hard work, commitment to the music-theatre discipline and sustained excellence over the course of a full production. The program is led by St. Norbert College faculty members Michael Rosewall (pit orchestra and vocals) and Sarah Parks (advisor, coordinator), as well as former Notre Dame Academy choral director Teresa Schmidt (artistic director) and Notre Dame Academy faculty member Andrea Hearden (choreographer).

For more information, visit http://www.snc.edu/nextstage, or contact artistic director Teresa Schmidt by phone at 920-639-9372 or by email at teresa.schmidt@snc.edu.
