St. Norbert College Music Theatre will hold auditions for its July production of "Into the Woods" at 6:30 p.m. May 31 and June 1, in the Abbot Pennings Hall of Fine Arts on the college campus.

"Into the Woods" calls for a cast of 18 singer/actors (12 women and 7 men); no dancing is required. Persons interested in working backstage on costumes, make-up, lighting, sets and running crew are invited to sign up at auditions. Rehearsals begin June 6. The show will run from July 20-24 in the Walter Theatre of the Abbot Pennings Hall of Fine Arts on the college campus. James P. Birder will direct the production, with Dudley Birder serving as musical director.

Written by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine and winner of several Tony Awards, "Into the Woods" intertwines the plots of several fairy tales exploring the consequences of wishes and quests, with the main characters coming from "Little Red Riding Hood," "Jack and the Beanstalk," "Rapunzel" and "Cinderella."
Founded by Dudley Birder in 1962, St. Norbert College Music Theatre is the oldest musical theatre organization in Wisconsin. Throughout its history, it has presented more than 800 performances of more than 75 musical productions, relying primarily on local volunteer talent.
