St. Norbert College will be hosting distinguished scholar Harry Brod for the Fall 2016 academic semester. Brod will live on campus, teach, talk, conduct research and work in the community. The semester begins when classes start on Monday, Aug. 29. Individuals looking to meet, talk or consult with Brod may contact him directly at harry.brod@snc.edu.

Brod, hosted through the college's Cassandra Voss Center (CVC), will help launch the CVC's 2016-17 theme: "Untied: Masculinity Now." Brod is widely recognized as a founder of masculinities studies, the interdisciplinary study of men and the construction of masculinity. As a child of Holocaust survivors, Brod will also engage in conversations about Jewish/Christian dialogue while at St. Norbert.

Brod is currently a professor of sociology and humanities at the University of Northern Iowa. He has his Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of California, San Diego, and his B.A. in humanities from New York University. Brod will be teaching two courses on masculinity during his stay, one for undergraduate students and one for students in the college's graduate program. He will also lead a faculty/staff masculinity study group during his visit.

The Cassandra Voss Center was opened in 2013 to honor the life of Cassandra J. Voss, who died in a car accident in 2007 at the age of 21 during her senior year at St. Norbert College. She was on track to graduate as the college's first women's and gender studies major. The CVC provides a collaborative learning environment for the study of women and gender using an integrated educational approach connecting theory, research, experiential learning and co-curricular development.
