Several St. Norbert College students, faculty and staff were honored at the annual Founder's Day Prayer Breakfast on Oct. 12. Each year during Heritage Week -- the celebration of the college's birthday -- several individuals are recognized at the breakfast for embodying the college's mission. Those honored with an award this year were Drew Van Fossen, April Beiswenger ("BYE-swenger"), George Blohowiak ("Blow-HO-wee-ack"), Brittany Rupp and Clarissa Jauregui ("HAIR-agee).

Van Fossen is the executive director of communications and marketing for the college. He is chiefly responsible for telling the St. Norbert College story through print-related marketing pieces and mission-related design elements. One of the colleagues who nominated him said he "has internalized the mission of the college from the beginning."

Beiswenger is an associate professor of theatre studies at the college and the director of the theatre studies program. In her classes, she focuses on how social justice issues can be explored through the arts. In the community, she works with organizations such as Mosaic Arts, Theatre Z and the Oneida Nation toward these same ends. Her nominator said that she is "the quintessential collaborative artist, teacher, colleague and mentor."

Blohowiak is currently a technician in the department of facilities on the college campus. He was recognized for his work as the housekeeper for the college's Michels and Gries residence halls. George was nominated by two students who wanted to recognize him for fostering a sense of community in Michels Hall, saying "he is a living example of Christ's message. His positivity fills our space with [a] feeling of comfort and welcome."

Rupp (Green Bay, Wis.) is a junior student studying biology with a biomedical concentration. She is co-president of the Biology Club and a junior class representative in the SNC Student Government Association. Rupp lost her mother in high school and was deeply moved to receive a blanket from a special needs student as comfort. She now makes blankets herself for SNC students and faculty when they lose a loved one. Her nominator said, "She loves all people for who they are and … cares for everyone very deeply."

Jauregui (Fish Creek, Wis.) is a senior student studying business administration and economics. In addition to being a captain for the track and field team and a member of the cross country team, she is a Dean's List student, a member of Omicron Delta Epsilon economics honor society, and a participant in the St. Norbert College STAR (Students Taking Academic Responsibility) program.
