St. Norbert College to Offer Masters Course on Identity and Community

St. Norbert College's Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (M.L.S.) program is offering a unique summer course offering "Building Identity and Community: A Global Look at Welcoming Difference."

Taught by Robert Osgood, professor of education at St. Norbert, the course will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays beginning July 10 through Aug. 10 on the St. Norbert campus.
The course will examine two key social concepts: identity and community. How people define and envision themselves (identity) conveys much about their worldview and perspectives. How groups of people choose to congregate, collaborate and engage with others (community) helps define human relationships in fundamental ways.
Focusing specifically on schools, special education, disability and refugees in the U.S., Indonesia, Sweden and other members of the European Union, the course will explore how these four arenas of societal activity help identity and community shape and affect historical, political and interpersonal practices in different nations and societies.
