St. Norbert College Announces October Outreach Class and Workshop Offerings

St. Norbert College announces its community outreach offerings for October. The workshops and classes take place at varying locations with different registration fees, noted below. Registration for all offerings is available at http://www.snc.edu/outreach.

"Taste of Cuba" Cooking Class

This cooking class will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Brown County Culinary Kitchen, 2900 Curry Lane in Green Bay. Instructor Lisa Escalante-Ortiz will teach participants how to make dishes such as fried plantains, Cuban mojo marinated pork, and traditional beans and rice. Escalante-Ortiz holds a degree in business and marketing from Lakeland College and is also a founder and partner of Dos Chiles LLC, an authentic Mexican catering company in Green Bay. The registration fee of $40 per person includes instruction, food and materials. Register by Oct. 3.

"Impasta" Pasta Cooking Class

This pasta cooking class will take place on Thursday, Oct. 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Brown County Culinary Kitchen, 2900 Curry Lane in Green Bay. Instructor Jamie Raisleger will teach participants how to cook a lasagna without meat, dairy, eggs, gluten and processed sugar, all without baking or heating. Raisleger is an integrated nutrition health coach and a certified practitioner of the Living Foods Wellness program. The registration fee of $40 per person includes instruction, food and materials. Register by Oct. 5.

"Nonprofit Knowledge and Nibbles: Thriving in Rapidly Changing Demographics"

This workshop will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 17, from 12 to 1:30 p.m. on the St. Norbert College campus. It will give participants information on the rapidly changing demographics of Green Bay and Wisconsin and how such changes will affect an organization. Additional topics include working toward cultural competency and how to develop knowledge in order to be a successful nonprofit organization in modern times. The presenter, Avery Garcia, is the program coordinator in the Multicultural Student Services office at St. Norbert College. A buffet lunch is included with the registration fee of $25; space is limited to 50 attendees.

Environmental Policy and Regulation Discussion
This workshop will take place on Thursday, Oct. 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. on the St. Norbert College campus. The workshop will include a survey of federal and state environmental laws and regulations and will examine the history and role of environmental regulation in relation to air and water pollution, wildlife and resource management. The workshop will be directed by Adam Brandt, assistant professor of biology at St. Norbert College. Registration is $20 for the general public and $15 for students, faculty, staff and alumni of St. Norbert College. Register by Oct. 12.

"Veggie Sushi" Cooking Class

This cooking class will take place on Thursday, Oct. 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Brown County Culinary Kitchen, 2900 Curry Lane in Green Bay. Instructor Jamie Raisleger will teach participants how to cook sushi without meat, seafood, dairy, eggs, gluten, processed sugar or soy, without using a stove. Raisleger is an integrated nutrition health coach and a certified practitioner of the Living Foods Wellness program. Registration is $40 per person and includes instruction, food and materials. Register by Oct. 19.

"Mexican Chocolate" Cooking Class

This cooking class will take place on Monday, Oct. 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Brown County Culinary Kitchen, 2900 Curry Lane in Green Bay. Instructor Lisa Escalante-Ortiz will teach participants how to make traditional Mexican recipes, from appetizer to dessert, all with chocolate, including chicken mole skewers, turkey mole soup, Mexican hot chocolate and chipotle flourless cake. Escalante-Ortiz holds a degree in business and marketing from Lakeland College and is a founder and partner of Dos Chiles LLC, an authentic Mexican catering company in Green Bay. Registration is $40 per person and includes instruction, food and materials. Register by Oct. 23.
