Five St. Norbert College Student-Athletes Capture “Elite 20” Awards

Five St. Norbert College student-athletes have been named part of the Midwest Conference's (MWC) "Elite 20," an award presented to student-athletes with the highest overall grade-point average (GPA) competing at each of the 20 conference championships. The St. Norbert College fall athletics season recently ended with eight conference championships of which St. Norbert student-athletes won five "Elite 20 Awards". The "Elite 20" title was awarded to the following students:

Josh Koleske (Appleton, Wis.): Koleske is a sophomore biology and psychology major with a cumulative GPA of 4.00. He plays on the men's soccer team as a goalkeeper. He was also a second-team All-MWC choice last season.

Megan Lau (De Pere, Wis.): Lau is a junior general music education major with a cumulative GPA of 4.00. She plays on the women's golf team. This is the second year in a row that Lau has earned this award.

Ellie Lochner (Phillips, Wis.): Lochner is a sophomore geology and mathematics major with a cumulative GPA of 4.00. She plays on the women's soccer team as a forward.

Samuel Staehling (Plymouth, Wis.): Staehling is a sophomore biology major with a cumulative GPA of 4.00. He plays on the football team as a wide receiver. He was also a second-team All-MWC choice in 2016. In 2017, Staehling set the single-season record for touchdown receptions with 16 for the Green Knights. He also was named first-team all Midwest Conference.
Graceanne Tarsa (Traverse City, Mich.): Tarsa is a junior biology and mathematics major with a cumulative GPA of 4.00. She participates on the women's cross country team.

The mission of the St. Norbert College department of intercollegiate athletics is to provide student-athletes with a quality experience that is intellectually, spiritually and personally challenging. Supported by the philosophy and goals of NCAA Division III, the St. Norbert College athletics program promotes student growth in athletic skills, leadership, spirituality, teamwork, self-discipline and sportsmanship.

St. Norbert College has been historically successful in its athletics program, while its participating students have maintained high cumulative GPAs among their respective classes. St. Norbert College stresses the importance of being a student first and structures its athletics program to follow that. Multiple teams have won conference championships in recent years, such as football in 2015, women's soccer in 2013, women's cross country in 2016 and men's soccer in 2015, while simultaneously maintaining strong academic programs and a 93 percent job placement rate after graduation. The majority of students admitted to St. Norbert College scored 25 on the ACT with an average GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
