The Dudley Birder Chorale at St. Norbert College announces its "America Sings" concert on Friday, May 4, and Saturday, May 5, both at 7:30 p.m. The concerts will take place in the Walter Theatre in the Abbot Pennings Hall of Fine Arts, 315 Third St., De Pere. Tickets are $23 in rows A-U and $18 in rows V-Z. Tickets may be purchased online at http://www.snc.edu/tickets or through the St. Norbert College Box Office at 920-403-3950 or 315 Third St., De Pere.

The concert will feature an arrangement of choral highlights from the musical "Les Miserables," medleys from "The Music Man" and "Godspell," as well as the music of Marvin Hamlisch and popular hits from the 1940s. Thirteen vocalists will perform selections from these works, highlighting Broadway, gospel, patriotic and choral pops music.

This is the final concert that Dudley Birder will conduct prior to his retirement from the chorale on June 1. Birder has been professor of music at St. Norbert College since 1958. Although he retired from his academic duties in 1993, Birder remained active with the chorale. The college awarded Birder the President’s Medal for his dedication to art and his service to the community.

The Dudley Birder Chorale was established in 1974, presenting three to four concerts each year, usually with an orchestra. The chorale is a musical organization composed of singers from more than 30 communities in northeast Wisconsin who come together to sing choral masterworks. Members, who range from 15-year-olds to seniors, audition for the chorale and are accepted based on vocal quality and musicianship.
