Alex Gruber, a May 2018 graduate of St. Norbert College, was awarded a Phi Kappa Phi fellowship worth $5,000.
Gruber, from Plover, Wis., was one of 51 selected nationally to receive the award, which is given to Phi Kappa Phi members entering their first year of graduate school or professional study. Gruber plans to attend Boston College School of Theology and Ministry to study for a master’s degree in theology in the fall.
Selection for the fellowship award is based on the applicant’s promise of success in graduate or professional study, including academic achievement, service and leadership experience, letters of recommendation, work samples, personal statement and career goals, and acceptance at an approved graduate or professional program.
Gruber graduated summa cum laude from the Honors Program at St. Norbert College.
Founded in 1897 at the University of Maine and headquartered in Baton Rouge, La., Phi Kappa Phi has chapters on more than 300 college and university campuses in North America and the Philippines. Approximately 32,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni are initiated into the society each year. Its mission is to recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others. Benefits of membership in Phi Kappa Phi include academic prestige, the ability to apply for a variety of scholarships and grants, and discounts from the society’s partner companies.
