“Contemplation Through Illumination” is an art exhibition in the Baer Gallery at St. Norbert College that features The Saint John’s Bible, along with manuscript pages from the St. Norbert College art collection. Exhibition dates are Aug. 27 through Sept. 28 with a reception on Sept.11 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The galleries will also be open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on SNC Day, Saturday, Sept. 22, with exhibition-related hands-on art activities for all ages.

The Saint John’s Bible is the first handwritten and illuminated Bible commissioned by a Benedictine monastery since the invention of the printing press in the 15th century. Saint John’s University in Collegeville, Minn., commissioned world-renowned calligrapher Donald Jackson, senior scribe to Her Majesty the Queen’s Crown Office at the House of Lords in London, England, to lead a team of scribes and artists to create this masterpiece. More information on The Saint John’s Bible and the Heritage Edition can be found at http://www.saintjohnsbible.org.

On exhibit from Aug. 27 through Sept. 28, in the Godschalx Gallery at St. Norbert College is “April Beiswenger: The Making/Giving Project.” April Beiswenger is associate professor of theatre studies at St. Norbert College.

“The Making/Giving Project” is an exploration of the art of making and the art of giving. Visitors will be invited to try out various tools of making, like a spinning wheel, weaving looms, colored pencils, stamps and even a typewriter. “Making kits” will also be available for people to make their own gifts to give to others. Beiswenger will be in residence to show visitors how to use the various tools available to give out gifts herself.
