St. Norbert College is pleased to announce that Paul J. Ballard, associate dean for student success and retention, is one of 45 mid-level administrators in higher education nationwide selected by the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) to participate in the 2018-19 Senior Leadership Academy.

Individuals chosen for the yearlong program are administrators in higher education who have been identified by their institutions as having the potential for senior leadership positions in independent colleges or universities. Ballard will participate in an opening seminar Nov. 2-4, 2018, in St. Louis, Mo., and a closing seminar June 20-22, 2019, in Washington, D.C. He also will undertake a mentoring program, work with experts, participate in webinar and engage in a series of readings and case studies during the academic year.

Jeffrey Frick, dean of St. Norbert College, said, “Ballard has taken a nontraditional pathway to his current role as associate dean for student success and retention at St. Norbert College, having served as a public school teacher and then executive director of student affairs at his previous institution. He has been instrumental in helping the college develop stronger retention initiatives and in forging relationships across our campus. He has also taken on leadership roles to advance our strategic plan. I fully expect his participation in the Senior Leadership Academy will propel him along his leadership journey in higher education.”

Ballard earned a B.A. from Hope College, an M.A. in K-12 educational administration from Michigan State University, and a Ph.D. in higher education leadership from Western Michigan University. He joined the college in 2014, serving as associate dean for student success and retention; he also teaches in the leadership studies minor and in the MBA program at St. Norbert.
The Senior Leadership Academy is designed to prepare prospective leaders to assume positions as chief officers in any division, including academic affairs, student affairs, finance, enrollment management and advancement, in independent higher education.
