St. Norbert College Mock Trial Team Qualifies for Championship Series

For the first time since 2014, St. Norbert College has secured a bid to ORCS (Opening Round Champion Series); the second round in the American Mock Trial Association’s annual national tournament.

St. Norbert advanced to the ORCS by finishing fourth out of 32 teams at the Minneapolis regional the weekend of Feb 22-24.

The ORCS will take place March 8-10 in Geneva, Ill., with the winners advancing to the nationals. St. Norbert will compete against Stanford University, Ohio State University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, to name a few.

The St. Norbert College team is coached by Judge Marc Hammer, who teaches a business law course at St. Norbert; Tim Hogan, a partner and criminal litigator in the law firm of Hogan and Eickhoff in Appleton, Wis.; 2013 St. Norbert College graduate Alyssa Kempke, who is a permanent law clerk for the Hon. William C. Griesbach, chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the East District of Wisconsin and Charley Jacobs, associate professor of political science at St. Norbert.

Team members include Roman Buss (Prague), Christian Cattan (Chicago), Zac Dickhut (Waupun, Wis.), Samantha “Sammie” Greaves (Green Bay), Catherine Nowaczyk (Willow Springs, Ill.), Hanna Reinke (Appleton, Wis.), Elizabeth Totzke (Appleton, Wis.) and Hunter Van Asten (Kaukauna, Wis.). Seven of the eight students listed are going on to law school.

Individual honors went to Nowaczyk (outstanding witness), Totzke (outstanding attorney) and Van Asten (outstanding attorney).
