The St. Norbert College community honored Shan Bryan-Hanson, curator of art galleries and collections, with the Exceptional Service Award at the college’s annual President’s Dinner on Wednesday, Aug. 21.

Bryan-Hanson exemplifies the St. Norbert College mission in the many ways she interacts with communities on and off campus. In addition to serving as a staff member, administrator and artist, she is a strong guide for students: She teaches painting, supervises several students in the Bush Art Center and mentors art students through their senior capstone projects. She continually works to improve the student experience through her involvement in college committees. Bryan-Hanson has also increased the amount of funding for visual arts at St. Norbert College; her curatorial work has been funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Alliance of Museums.

Her nomination states, “She embraces diversity, social justice, liberal arts learning and kindness above all.”

The Exceptional Service Award is given annually to a staff employee (hourly or salaried) for service above and beyond normal work expectations. Nominations are submitted by St. Norbert College faculty and staff.
