Washington Monthly has announced St. Norbert College as one of the colleges to be on its 2021 Best Colleges for Student Voting. St. Norbert College is one of four colleges in Wisconsin included on the national honor roll list at https://snc.edu/go/studentvoting.

“Our goal is to remove every obstacle that would prevent students from exercising their right to vote, including the obstacles of apathy and unfamiliarity,” said Robert Pyne, director of Norman Miller Center for Peace, Justice and Public Understanding.
There were a variety of barriers due to the pandemic. However, it prompted St. Norbert College to rise to the challenge and adapt to the new circumstances.
“Working with a broad coalition of campus and community partners, we did our best to provide clear and accurate information to students, encouraging their civic engagement amidst highly stressful, discouraging and rapidly evolving circumstances,” Pyne added.

St. Norbert College hopes that future elections will eventually return to normal after the extra difficulties caused by the pandemic. Nevertheless, the impact of the political climate that obstructs conversation and jeopardizes democracy itself may linger longer.
“We have worked hard to promote voter education and participation, but the larger - and infinitely more difficult - goal is to cultivate public understanding and a renewed commitment to the common good,” said Pyne.
