Martina Giselle Ramirez, Ph.D., has been named dean of natural sciences at St. Norbert College, effective January 2022. Ramirez previously served as a professor of biology at Loyola Marymount University (LMU) in Los Angeles.

“It is my pleasure to welcome Dr. Martina Giselle Ramirez to St. Norbert College,” said Jennifer Bonds-Raacke, provost and vice president for academic affairs and at St. Norbert. “Her previous experiences as a department chair and faculty leader, combined with her committee work, will be invaluable to the college.”

Ramirez received her B.S. in biology from LMU in 1981, and her Ph.D. in biology from U.C. Santa Cruz in 1990. Her research focuses on spiders.

The dean serves as the academic and administrative leader for the division of natural sciences and advocates for the mission, purpose and support of the division’s programs. The dean exercises responsibility over all internal and external activities impacting the division, including the implementation of its strategic plan and its financial management. The division of natural sciences employs 31 faculty, 30 of whom are full-time and tenure-track at St. Norbert College.

The natural sciences division consists of seven academic disciplines (biology, chemistry, computer science, environmental science, geology, mathematics and physics), each offering at least one major and minor, in addition to the divisional natural sciences major.

Ramirez takes over for David Bailey, who was promoted to associate vice president for academic affairs at St. Norbert.
