St. Norbert College is raising awareness of sexual assault and gender-based violence prevention. Various on-campus events are scheduled throughout April, Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Each event is free and open to the public. Specific event details are as follows:

Take Back the (K)Night: Monday, April 11, 7- 9 p.m., in Fort Howard Theater at F. K. Bemis International Center, 299 Third St., De Pere. Take Back the Night is an event that provides space for reclamation. Hosted by the Equality Project at St. Norbert College, the group adds a “K” in recognition of the college’s mascot to claim a space within the SNC community for survivors of gender-based violence and their supporters. During this event, student and faculty speakers will share their experiences related to topics such as sexual assault, mental health, race, body image, sexuality and more.

Clothesline Project: Wednesday, April 13, 11 a.m.-12:45 p.m., and Thursday, April 21, 3-5 p.m. in the Ray Van Den Heuvel Campus Center lounge. Members of the St. Norbert College Community are invited to make shirts to help increase awareness of sexual assault. Shirts and art materials will be provided. T-shirts will be displayed in the campus center April 13-29.

Lectures: “Sex Ethics Beyond Consent,” presented by Sydney Keough, assistant professor of philosophy at St. Norbert College, and “Understanding Cultural Dynamics and Mission Influence on Gender-Based Violence on College Campuses,” presented by senior Molly Freye: Wednesday, April 20, at 6 p.m. in the Mulva Library, 400 Third St., De Pere. The lectures will point out the dangers of an overly narrow focus on consent and broaden views of cultural dynamics and influences of gender-based violence on college campuses.

“The Way I Dress Is Not YES” Photo Booth: Wednesday, April 20, and Thursday, April 21, 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Mulva Library lobby, 400 Third St., De Pere. The photo booth will help survivors and allies take over social media to help put a stop to victim-blaming.

Denim Day: St. Norbert College is honoring survivors of sexual violence by celebrating denim day on Wednesday, April 27. Community members are asked to show their support for survivors of sexual assault. A table at the resource fair (listed below) invites participants to decorate a denim square that will be added to a St. Norbert College survivor quilt.

Victim Services Resource Fair: Wednesday, April 27, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. in Baer Mall Circle (rain site is Todd Wehr Hall lobby). The public is invited to attend a resource fair to learn about agencies and organizations that provide services and assistance to victims of crime and their support circle.
