Fuentes, from Chicago, Ill., will give a presentation entitled, “The Representation of Women of Color in Peacebuilding, Diplomacy and Policy,” on Saturday, April 15, at 3 p.m. Fuentes’ paper will emphasize, “why it is so important to have more women of color involved in global conversations."

Fuentes is one of nearly 40 students representing 18 colleges and universities around the world who are presenting their own research, practice and projects in the interdisciplinary field of peace studies during the conference.

The Notre Dame Student Peace Conference, endowed by Joan B. Kroc and sponsored by the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies, is an annual event organized by students and for students. Its mission is to provide space for students from all colleges and universities to dialogue about peacebuilding, social justice, and conflict transformation. Each year, the event draws around a hundred students from across North America and around the world.

Fuentes will give the student commencement address at St. Norbert on Sunday, May 14.

Following graduation, she will be attending graduate school at Johns Hopkins University and focusing on security, statecraft and strategy in the Western Hemisphere. She will also be researching the International Rule of Law under the U.S. Department of State.
