The St. Norbert College theatre program will present there senior capstone project “This’ll Only Take a Second,” beginning Thursday, April 27 and running through Saturday, April 29 in the Drama Room at 6:30 p.m., Abbot Penning’s Hall of Fine Arts, 315 Third St.

The capstone project for theatre studies majors is an opportunity for students to create their own work as a culmination of their education at St. Norbert College.

The play was written by Zach Davis and portrays Miranda, a high-functioning perfectionist with bipolar disorder type II, who uses an app on her phone to journal her thoughts on the day. She tells herself “this’ll only take a second” to finish. Through imagined interactions with her mom, dad and Dr. Stevens, Miranda tackles the intertwining of past and present on her mental health.

In this one-woman short play, Zach Davis animates the inner world of many young adults today whose mental health is compromised by a world of gadgets, Instagram and Zoom. Isolated by a pandemic at a crucial stage in their lives, they strive to find balance in a world filled with sight, sound and sometimes silence.

The project is directed by professor of theatre studies, Stephen Rupsch. Associate professor of theatre and director of theatre studies, April Beiswenger will oversee all design aspects for this capstone project.

Graduating senior Molly Kubica (Appleton, Wis.) will play the role Miranda. Jacinta Maslanka (Crestwood, Ill.) designed the set, Natalie Elfner (Homewood, Ill.) designed the costumes and Andrea Waschbisch (Oconto Falls, Wis.) served as production assistant.

Admission is free and open to the public with limited seating. This production contains strong adult language.
