St. Norbert College Music Theatre Summer Stage Program to Perform The Music Man-Concert Version

St. Norbert College Music Theatre - Summer Stage will present “The Music Man-Concert Version.” This performance of one of the most beloved American musicals will honor the memory of St. Norbert’s own music man, Dudley Birder, who loved this show and conducted it many times in his career. Performances take place June 15-17 at Walter Theatre in the Abbot Pennings Hall of Fine Arts on the St. Norbert campus. “The Music Man-Concert Version” follows a tricky traveling music salesman, Harold Hill, as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms from him for a band that he promises to organize even though he doesn’t have a clue how to do so. His plans to escape with the money before the town catches on are ruined when he falls for Marian, the town librarian, who turns him into a respectable citizen.

The classic story is brought to life with a full cast of characters in concert with a live band and more than 50 choir members from the Dudley Birder Chorale. The cast is made up of many local performers including:

“The Music Man - Concert Version” is directed by Michael Rosewall, professor emeritus of music, and Kent Paulsen, artistic director of the Dudley Birder Chorale Music. Lyrics are written by Meredith Willson, and the story was created by Willson and Franklin Lacey with concert adaptations done by Evans Haile.
