Two of St. Norbert College’s fall music events will feature guests Charles Lloyd Jr., Richard Hobson and Kearstin Piper Brown. Lloyd is a composer, pianist and professor at Southern University who was a featured composer and arranger for the famous “Spirituals in Concert” recording by Deutsche Grammophon live at Carnegie Hall. Hobson, also a professor at Southern University, is a baritone singer with more than a decade of experience at the New York Metropolitan Opera. Piper Brown is a soprano winner of the Montserrat Caballe Competition.

At the Autumn String Orchestra Concert, St. Norbert College’s orchestra and choirs will be joined by Piper Brown and Hobson as they present Lloyd’s Cantata entitled “Spirit Song,” based on the 1811 slave revolt in New Orleans. The free concert is at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, in the Walter Theatre of the Abbot Pennings Hall of Fine Arts, 315 Third St., De Pere. Tickets are not required.

Hobson and Lloyd will also present a guest artist recital at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at Dudley Birder Hall, 400 Grant St., De Pere. The recital is free to attend and tickets are not required. While visiting St. Norbert College, Hobson and Lloyd will also offer a masterclass on voice and piano/composition, respectively, for St. Norbert College music students.
