St. Norbert College Marks Martin Luther King Jr. Day with In-Service Sessions

To honor Martin Luther King Jr., St. Norbert College students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in educational sessions on MLK Day, Jan. 15, and during the college’s Beloved Community Week, Jan. 29-Feb. 3. Offerings include:

• “Dear Beloved Community: Welcome to the Struggle,” with Amanda Florence Garcia Goodenough, CEO and founder of Goodenough Consulting and a team lead and partner for Social Responsibility Speaks. Goodenough is a dedicated educator operating from a cultural humility framework to center and elevate historically marginalized voices, promote belongingness and mattering, disrupt structural inequities, and advance intersectional social and racial justice.

• “Revisiting the Respect Initiative,” an engaging discussion on cultivating self-awareness, owning one’s impact, finding common ground, seeking reconciliation and investing in the common good.

• “Living and Working with Critical Hope”: Derek Elkins, director of the college’s Sturzl Center for Community Service & Spiritual Life, will lead a workshop that explores three guiding principles that point toward a hope that is values-oriented, rooted in reality and lived out day to day.

• Beloved Community Faculty Scholarship Symposium: St. Norbert College faculty will offer brief presentations on their scholarship and creative work related to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
