The 21st annual Pi Mu Epsilon Regional Undergraduate Math Conference will be held Nov. 3-4 at St. Norbert College. Woody Dudley, a nationally recognized mathematics author and speaker, will be the featured speaker at the event. Dudley earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Carnegie Institute of Technology and his doctorate degree from the University of Michigan. He has earned several awards for his work, including the Trevor Evans Award, Distinguished Service Award, and Meritorious Service Award from the Mathematical Association of America (MAA). Registration for the event begins Friday, Nov. 3 at 5 p.m., and will be followed by student talks and Dudley's presentation of "Angle Trisectors." Saturday, Nov. 4 will feature an 8:30 a.m. breakfast and registration, followed by 9 a.m. student talks and Dudley's "Formulas for Primes" presentation at 11 a.m. New to the conference this year is "Face-Off! The Mathematics Game Show," which places teams of 2-4 students from each school attending the event in a competition against other schools in a mathematical knowledge contest. The event is free and open to the public, and is sponsored by the MAA and the National Science Foundation to help visiting scholars reduce the cost of travel. The deadline for pre-registration to the conference is Oct. 30 at 3 p.m. Central Time. For more information, contact Rick Poss at (920) 403-3198 or rick.poss@snc.edu.
