Alpha Xi Delta at St. Norbert College has begun its third annual Bear Hugs for the Holidays Toy Drive. The group will be collecting new and gently used toys and stuffed animals as well as new kitchen and hygiene products. The drive runs from Wednesday, Nov. 1 to Friday, Nov. 17. The donation centers are located on the St. Norbert College campus and the De Pere Community Center. The House of Hope, the Golden House Family Violence Center, Bellin Pediatrics in Green Bay and the Ronald McDonald House of Milwaukee are the sites to receive the donations. This is a yearly event for Alpha Xi Delta, who seeks to bring together the St. Norbert College campus and the surrounding community toward brightening the holidays for many area children. "Seeing all of our hard work come to fruition during this philanthropy project brings home what the Christmas season is truly about-giving to others," explains Elizabeth Meert, Chapter Life Vice President of Alpha Xi Delta. Founded in 1893 by ten young women at Lombard College in Galesburg, Ill., Alpha Xi Delta, a progressive and forward thinking women's fraternity, has grown into a national sisterhood of over 135,000 members. Alpha Xi Deltas strive to inspire all women to realize their potential in academics, leadership, service to the community and emotional intelligence. In February 2005, a group of 20 women at St. Norbert College (formerly the local sorority Alpha Sigma Chi since 1968) officially became the Iota Lambda chapter of Alpha Xi Delta, the 203rd chapter installed nationally.
