The St. Norbert community band, conducted by Frederick Schmidt, will present its annual spring concert on Monday, April 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the Walter Theatre. The program will feature a number of fanfares, overtures and marches. The community band will open the program with a short, yet exciting fanfare entitled "Fanfare for a Festive Occasion" by Gary Ziek, and will also perform the James Barnes composition "Fanfares and Alleluias." The ensemble will present two classic orchestral transcriptions, "The Roman Carnival Overture" by Hector Berlioz and "Russlan and Ludmilla Overture" by Michael Glinka. In addition, a more contemporary overture entitled "Overture for Winds" will be performed. Composer Charles Carter was an arranger for the Florida State University Bands. Australian composer Percy Aldridge Grainger's famous "Children's March, Over the Hills and Far Away" will feature the low woodwinds and St. Norbert College faculty member Elaine Moss on the piano. Recognized as one of the finest adult bands in the state, the St. Norbert Community Band was selected to perform at the Wisconsin State Music Conference in 1993, 2001 and recently in October 2006. In addition, the band was also selected to perform at both the 1998 and 2000 National Conventions of the Association of Concert Bands. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for students/senior citizens. Tickets can be purchased at the St. Norbert College Box Office at (920) 403-3950 or (800) 762-2699.
