St. Norbert College recently received a $100,000 grant from the William Randolph Hearst Foundations, New York-based foundations that assist institutions in providing opportunities to underserved and underrepresented populations. This grant will increase the total size of St. Norbert College's William Randolph Hearst Endowed Scholarship Fund to $300,000. This endowment supports students in perpetuity, providing scholarships each year for U.S. diversity students attending the College. "St. Norbert College and the William Randolph Hearst Foundations have a special partnership forged by our mutual concern that students of color have the financial assistance they need to complete their college educations," said William Hynes, president of the College. "This additional financial support will help students focus on studying rather than worry about financing their education." Since 1988, the Hearst Fund has provided 67 scholarships to students at St. Norbert College. These diversity scholarships complement the College's desire to create an inclusive environment where each student is respected and able to succeed. Studies also suggest that a diverse student body has a positive educational value, including helping students successfully compete and interact in an increasingly global and diverse work force. Foundation program officer Alison Yu added, "The Hearst Foundations have a long tradition of supporting colleges and universities that educate talented students of all backgrounds. The St. Norbert College community nurtures and encourages its students in both their academic and personal growth, and we are proud to continue building the Hearst Fund." The William Randolph Hearst Endowed Scholarship Fund will annually award scholarship support to one or more St. Norbert students of varying race/ethnicity. However, preference will be given to Native Americans. While St. Norbert College understands that all students are better able to achieve academic goals when their financial needs are met, the College also addresses the needs of the whole student. St. Norbert College students have access to an educational environment that is intellectually, spiritually and personally challenging, a wide variety of co-curricular opportunities, and the Cultural Diversity Office, which provides programming and resources for all students. For more information about this and other St. Norbert College scholarship opportunities, contact the Financial Aid office at (920) 403-3071 or financialaid@snc.edu.
