Eligibility

Eligibility 
  • Regardless of your major, minor, or extracurriculars, we have a study abroad program for you
  • You don't need to know a foreign language to study abroad; most of our programs are in English
  • Participate in a semester-long program after two semesters in residence at SNC 
  • You must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5; some programs require a 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Students on academic, credit, or disciplinary probation from the time of application to the semester abroad are ineligible
  • Eligibility requirements for Global Seminars vary by program

Academics

Academics
  • Enroll in the same number of credits abroad (15 to 16 credits) as you would at SNC to stay on track for graduation 
  • Most programs have courses that satisfy requirements for your major(s), minor(s), and the core curriculum 
  • Although you will earn grades abroad, they are not calculated into your SNC GPA
  • Transfer credit is only awarded if the equivalent of a “C” or higher is earned
  • You are responsible for understanding the transfer and credit requirements at your host institution

Logistics

Logistics 
  • Housing: Students are housed in residence halls, in apartments, or with host families; explore our programs for more information 
  • Meals: Meal plans vary by program; explore our programs for more information 
  • Flights: You are responsible for arranging and purchasing round-trip tickets to their destination 
  • Passport: You will need a passport that is valid for at least six months after your program end date
  • Visa: Although you are responsible for obtaining a visa, we will provide you with the necessary information 
  • Finances: Learn more about costs and scholarships 

Safety

Health, Safety, and Security 
  • Students who study abroad are automatically enrolled in a comprehensive health insurance plan through HTH Worldwide
  • In partnership with Health & Wellness Services, you will receive region-specific information that covers health issues and suggested/required vaccinations
  • Health, safety and security issues are discussed throughout Pack+Prep (pre-departure programming); additional information is in our handbook (see Resources)
  • We monitor travel alerts and travel warnings from the U.S. Department of State; you are not permitted to study in a country that is on the U.S. Department of State’s travel warning list 
  • You are strongly encouraged to register with the U.S. Department of State prior to your departure
