Policy

St. Norbert College recommends employees receive at least 10 hours of professional development annually. While employees’ departments are expected to fund professional development, there may be times when a department’s budget is insufficient to meet these needs. In such cases, employees may apply for a professional development grant of up to $750 per fiscal year.

Procedure

Funding Application
To secure professional development funding:

  1. Inform your supervisor you’d like to apply for professional development funds.
  2. Complete the professional development funding application.

Review and Notification Process

  1. The director of human resources and the professional development committee review all requests on or about the 15th of each month.
  2. Recommendations about funding are made to the president’s cabinet on or about the 22nd of each month. Requests are evaluated on the degree to which the professional development opportunity will advance college’s mission and goals. Priority consideration will be given to professional development opportunities that are expected to benefit the greatest number of people, additional consideration will be given for EDI related programs.
  3. Approvals are made on a first-come, first-served basis, and funding may be for less than the requested amount.
  4. The director of human resources or designee will notify you and your supervisor about the decision of the president’s cabinet shortly after it is made.

Reflection Requirement
If you receive a grant, you must submit a brief reflection about your experience to the assistant vice president for human resources within 30 days after completing the professional development opportunity. The reflection will be shared with your supervisor and the professional development committee, and should include:

  1. A description of what you learned
  2. A description of how the professional development opportunity will help accomplish departmental, divisional or college goals
