Policy

All employees are covered by workers’ compensation insurance while acting within the course and scope of their employment at St. Norbert. If you have an accident during your course of employment at the college, immediately report it to your supervisor.

Workers’ compensation insurance covers medical and hospital expenses resulting from on-the-job injuries. Varying degrees of compensation may be available to you, depending on the nature of your injury. Certain benefits are paid to dependents of an employee whose death is caused by an accident during their course of employment.

If you are receiving workers’ compensation, you must continue to pay the employee portion of any college benefit with a shared employee/employer premium. Failure to pay premiums in a timely manner may cause you to lose coverage.

While you are receiving workers’ compensation payments (approximately 67% for any lost time based on prior 52 weeks of wages), you may also use up to 13.33 hours per week of your unused personal paid time off (PTO) and/or accrued vacation time in order to receive full pay.  This can help pay for any employee benefit premiums you owe each pay period. Contact Human Resources if you wish to do so.

Workers’ compensation leave may also qualify you for, and run concurrently with, Family and Medical Leave.

During your recovery from a work-related illness or injury, the college will follow its return-to-work policy to try and find work you’re able to perform. You must also provide a return-to-work medical certification before returning to the college after your work-related illness or injury.

Procedures

Employee Responsibility
If you are involved in an accident, however minor, you must report it to your supervisor.

Supervisor Responsibility
After receiving an accident or injury report from an employee, you must complete a supervisor accident/ injury investigation report as soon as practicable, but no later than 24 hours after the accident.
