Eight Championship Games Cap an Unprecedented Season

Green Knights fall sports teams made all eight of their conference championship games – and in five encounters, they emerged victorious. It was a remarkable achievement unprecedented at St. Norbert and perhaps across the Midwest Conference.

Meanwhile, as the fall sports wrap up, basketball and hockey action begins – and it’s all we can do to keep up with the action unfolding on turf and track, boards and ice. Luckily, our videographer John Devroy (Communications) has enough Green Knights spirit to match the zest of our student-athletes and their fans.

We’re happy to share Devroy’s “highlight reel” from this semester, covering St. Norbert College football, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross-country, cheerleading, volleyball, men’s and women’s hockey, men’s and women’s basketball, and dance teams.

Strong to the finish
Claire Hetzel ’19 and Stephanie Doerfert ’19 each claimed their first MWC tennis doubles title at the Midwest Conference Doubles Championships this fall, with a thrilling 9-8 (3) win over Grinnell College’s Lily Hamilton and Anushka Joshi in the championship match.

Women’s cross-country captured the Midwest Conference title with 37 points. St. Norbert had eight runners earn All-Midwest Conference honors by finishing in the top 20. Taylor Domro ’18 led St. Norbert by finishing in second place, turning in a time of 22:18.2.

The Green Knights share their Midwest Conference titles in both women’s and men’s soccer with Knox College, after both teams battled to a scoreless tie.

The women’s golf team charged to its best-ever finish at the Midwest Conference Championship with a second-place showing at Aldeen Golf Club.

St. Norbert College fell just short of returning to the top of the Midwest Conference football race, losing a 9-6 overtime decision to Monmouth College in the Midwest Conference Championship Game. The Green Knights (7-3) and Fighting Scots (9-1) battled to a 3-3 tie at the end of 60 minutes to set up overtime.

The Green Knights faced Cornell College in the Midwest Conference women’s volleyball championship for the sixth consecutive year. St. Norbert fell to the Rams, who claimed a 3-1 win.

The men’s cross-country team finished sixth at the Midwest Conference Championship, finishing with 148 points. Joe Gasick ’21 led St. Norbert with a 22nd-place finish in 26:41.

Follow the Green Knights
From now until March, it will be all about hockey, basketball and the indoor track and field season. Follow the fortunes of both men’s and women’s teams at www.snc.edu/athletics.
