St. Norbert College is now accepting nominations for the Civis Princeps Silver Knight Award which will be presented at the 2011 De Pere Community Silver Knight Celebration (formerly De Pere Community Night) on Saturday, Sept. 17. All nominations are due no later than Friday, July 15.

Since 1968, this event has celebrated the relationship between St. Norbert College and the De Pere community. The Civis Princeps Silver Knight Award recognizes a resident of De Pere who exemplifies the Norbertine tradition of self-emptying service to the community. The award is bestowed upon an outstanding individual nominated by De Pere service clubs, civic organizations or other members of the community. The winner each year is selected by a vote of past recipients. Last year, Jack Walsh honored for his quiet devotion to the De Pere community for decades. His involvement ranged from civic posts to memberships in organizations including the De Pere City Council, Kiwanis Club, Golden K Club, NEW Community Shelter, De Pere School District, St. Francis Parish, De Pere Little League, United Way of Brown County, and the Nicolet Federated Library of Brown County.

Each nominee must be a current De Pere resident for a minimum of at least five consecutive years who has demonstrated leadership, imagination and dedication and made a significant public service contribution to the community of De Pere. Letters of support and a summary of the nominee's community contributions should be included with the nomination. Anyone, including individuals, service organizations and churches, can nominate persons for this award. Previous nominees must be re-nominated.

New this year, the De Pere Community Silver Knight Celebration will be held in the historic Old St. Joseph Church and take the format of a celebratory prayer service and breakfast.

More information about the award and the Silver Knight Celebration, as well as the nomination form, can be found on the St. Norbert College website at http://www.snc.edu/communications/events/communitynight.html.
