The Rev. Jim Neilson to Speak at St. Norbert College Women's Conference

The Rev. James Neilson, O.Praem., priest, artist and teacher, will be the keynote speaker at St. Norbert College's 15th annual Phenomenal Woman Conference on Saturday, April 20, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in F.K. Bemis International Center on the St. Norbert campus.

Fr. Neilson is a Norbertine priest of St. Norbert Abbey. He has studied art at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago, Notre Dame University and The Vermont Studio center, where he earned an MFA in three-dimensional mixed-media sculpture. He was an assistant professor of art at St. Norbert College and received the Leonard Ledvina Educator of the Year Award in 2005. Fr. Neilson lectures across the country on topics related to art and faith.

His own artwork has been on display at the Neville Public Museum, where he took first place and Best in Show awards at the 62nd Art Annual Exhibition (2006) and first place at the 66th Art Annual Exhibition (2010). Fr. Neilson recently exhibited new work at the Ames School of Art in Bloomington, Ill., and lectured on topics of contemporary art and imagination at the Peninsula School of Art in Fish Creek, Wis.

The Phenomenal Woman Conference focuses on celebrating, advocating, supporting and empowering women, and includes lunch, Neilson's keynote presentation, interactive workshops, gifts and raffles, and a musical performance during lunch.

The cost of the event is $20 for community members, $10 for St. Norbert staff/faculty, and $10 for students.
