Eminent SNC-Nurtured Scientists Honored at Commencement

Dr. Oluyemisi Adeyemi-Fowode ’04St. Norbert College is delighted to welcome back two eminent alumni who both began their impactful careers at St. Norbert and now return to take up places of honor at this year’s Commencement ceremony.

Dr. Oluyemisi Adeyemi-Fowode ’04, who was the student speaker at her own SNC graduation, will be the Commencement speaker for the 2022 celebration on May 15.

The doctor of pediatric and adolescent gynecology will also receive an honorary degree from St. Norbert, along with eminent virologist Mark Stinski ’63.

St. Norbert beginnings to two stellar careers
Adeyemi-Fowode, formerly of Texas Children’s Hospital and a member of the obstetrics and gynecology faculty at Baylor College of Medicine, started her college journey at the age of 15. She graduated from St. Norbert College magna cum laude in 2004 at age 19 with a degree in chemistry (pre-med track). She went on to earn her medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine in 2009 and completed her residency at Baylor College of Medicine in 2013. She recently opened Texas Pediatric & Adolescent Gynecology, where she now practices.

A member of the St. Norbert board of trustees until 2011. Adeyemi-Fowode lives in Houston with her husband, Tosin, and their three children.

Stinski, now professor emeritus of microbiology, made hisMark Stinski ’63 name at the University of Iowa’s Carver College of Medicine where his laboratory discovered the CMV promoter, a protein-making tool that is useful in developing several therapeutic drugs. The CMV promoter has resulted in more effective treatments for several major diseases, including non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.


Student leaders round out the program
The student speaker at commencement is graduating senior Jonathan Contreras ’22 of Milwaukee. The national anthem will be sung by graduating senior Trent Larson ’22 of Greenville, Wis.; graduating senior Kassidy Freund ’22 of Fond du Lac, Wis., will serve as honor conductor.
