Give Yourself Some Credit – College Credit, That Is – While You’re in High School

You’ve probably been wondering what it takes to be successful in college classes.

The College Jumpstart program at St. Norbert College is a great opportunity for you to explore the pace of college before graduating from high school. You can take college classes as a high school student to expose yourself to college coursework, and to give yourself a competitive edge for minimal costs.

Haven’t decided where you are going to college? That’s okay, credits from this program are transferable to a wide variety of institutions, thanks to St. Norbert College’s reputation for academic excellence. Plus, showing initiative by taking advanced classes like these looks great on ALL college applications — especially as you're competing for a spot at the college of your choice.

Benefits of College Jumpstart
  • Gain a competitive edge over other college applicants
  • Save on tuition and room and board — College Jumpstart students pay a fraction of the standard cost of a 4-credit course. It may also reduce the amount of tuition paid when you get to college because when you transfer courses, that means fewer courses you have to take in college.

Qualified teachers, specially selected and approved by St. Norbert College and according to HCL standards, teach classes in English, mathematics, theology, education and leadership studies at participating high schools in northeast Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The courses, four credits each, are the same courses designed for college students taking them at St. Norbert.

Assignments and academic expectations for College Jumpstart students are the same as those that St. Norbert College professors have for their own students.

The College Jumpstart office will collect high school transcripts from each prospective College Jumpstart student from the high school/district office.

All students must have:

  • A minimum overall GPA of 3.0,
  • A’s and B’s in previous classes in the subject area of the prospective course,
  • Appropriate pre-test scores (for English and Math courses)
  • Teacher recommendation.

These requirements are subject to change by the College Jumpstart office. In addition, some courses may also require the student to have completed particular courses in high school.
