Phase One: Academic Registration

In the first phase of Orientation, we’ll get your academic advising, course registration, placement testing and other administrative things taken care of.

Testing

Testing and Advisement Survey
Prior to your academic advisement and course registration meeting, there are a few placement tests you may need to complete. These include the math placement test and modern languages placement test. Please also complete a short advisement survey to help your summer advisor get to know a little about you and your academic interests.

Honor Code
As an incoming student at St. Norbert College, you agree to uphold a high level of academic integrity. All students are asked to abide by the St. Norbert College Honor Code while completing all placement exams. You cannot use any additional materials to complete any of the placement exams. Consulting a print or online source (e.g., dictionary) or a speaker of the language for which you are testing, using a smartphone or calculator, or otherwise getting assistance while you are taking placement tests, is not allowed. These acts are a violation of the SNC Honor Code. If you are found to have violated the Honor Code, your score(s) will be disqualified.

Placement Tests
For all placement exams, you will be required to use your St. Norbert College email account and SNC ID Number. Please make sure you know both of these before you start the exams. If you have questions regarding placement testing, please contact advise@snc.edu.

Math
All students are encouraged to take the math placement test. Students considering a major in mathematics, chemistry, geology, physics or computer science must complete the placement exam as calculus is required for those majors. It is recommended students majoring in the natural sciences complete the placement test.

Students may enroll in MATH 115 Pre-Calculus Mathematics, MATH 120 Numbers and Operations (education majors), MATH 123 Applications of Contemporary Mathematics, or MATH 128 Introductory Statistics for Business (business majors) without completing the placement test.

The math placement test will be completed via Moodle using your SNC account login. Calculators are not allowed for the test and using a calculator would be a violation of the SNC Honor Code.
