Rosemary Sands joined St. Norbert College in 1993 and was named director of the Center for Norbertine Studies in May 2018 after having served as assistant director since 2015. Previously, she was an adjunct and visiting instructor in modern foreign languages and literatures (Spanish and Italian), and later served as director of study abroad from 2002 until 2015.

Sands earned her doctorate in Spanish and Italian from Middlebury College. Her dissertation, La desamortización eclesiástica de Juan Álvarez Mendizábal: su impacto sobre la Orden Premonstratense en la España del siglo XIX, deals with the history of the Norbertine Order in Spain (1143-1835). Her doctoral research prepared her well for her work in the Center for Norbertine Studies, where, among other duties, she maintains the extensive Spanish Norbertine collection and continues her own research for future publications in English, and also teaches an undergraduate course entitled Communio and the Norbertines
