Question:

Dear Abbot Pennings,

May I inquire, what are your spring break plans?

Mackenzie Timmer ’18

Answer:

My dearest Mackenzie,

Thank you for your kind inquiry. The opportunity to ponder this chance for rest and recreation is most welcome! Although my spring break is typically spent in quiet solitude within my Mulva Library home, I fancy myself something of an – ahem – armchair traveler and take much delight in my imagination’s uncanny ability to whisk me away. Rest and recreation is to be valued by all, and many and diverse are the places I would be pleased to visit whilst on vacation. Particularly of interest to me would be the chance to accompany one of our T.R.I.P.S. alternative spring break groups. What a delight to witness our students serving others – adhering to a principle that remains central to our St. Norbert College community.

A world tour of regions where my fellow Norbertines reside would also be most welcome. Africa, Australia, Europe, India and through the Americas … the order's reach is extraordinary, to be sure, and there is much to see at home and abroad.

And, most certainly, a visit to a warm white-sanded beach (preferably a quiet one) would be in order. Daytona Beach and South Padre Island are simply not my “scene” this time of year.

Thank you for your question, Mackenzie. I trust you and your fellow classmates will be well and keep safe as you enjoy your spring break holiday.
