Pre-service teachers explore methods for teaching social studies in the elementary/middle school grade levels through a constructivist theoretical and philosophical lens. Pre-service teachers also examine how social studies methods meld with theories of learning, curricular development, evaluation and contemporary classroom practices. Particular emphasis is placed on theory-to-practice strategies and on self- and peer-evaluation as part of pre-service teachers’ preparation for becoming successful, effective and culturally responsive educators. Prerequisites: EDUC 125 and EDUC 130; concurrent enrollment in pre-professional block.
