Contemporary Art - Ideas & Practice

This introductory studio art course explores contemporary art in concept and practice. Contemporary art is the art of today, produced by artists who are living in our time. It provides opportunities to reflect on society and the issues that are important to us and the world in our current moment. This course is designed to provide students with a general understanding of ideas related to contemporary art practice, as well as to provide introductory studio experiences. In this course, students are introduced to the field of art as a space of knowledge development through engaged art practice, along with the thoughtfulness of critical reflection that is essential within the field of art. Students will also be introduced to a variety of media and approaches to art-making throughout the course. Fall, odd-numbered years.
