Humans of St. Norbert:

“Currently, I’m into fusing glass and that’s where you take either sheets of glass or stringers and you arrange them and put them in a kiln and they fuse together to make the piece that I am working on. The other part of art glass that I work with is called lampworking, and that’s where you take rods of glass and you heat them over a torch and you sculpt them into beads or figurines. The process of making and creating a glass piece is very peaceful and calming. It gives me time to kind of be in my own space and it’s almost meditative in a way.

“I don’t assemble much jewelry so I donate the glass beads [that I make] to a non-profit organization called Beads of Courage. They assemble them into necklaces and bracelets for children that are undergoing treatment or who are seriously ill. Right now, I am just selling [my fused glass] through word of mouth with friends and family or friends of friends. It’s a hobby so that’s enough to keep me going for now, but I think in the future I would like to see it develop into more because it’s rewarding to make something for someone else where you know they are either going to gift it or keep it for themselves to enjoy.” – Lisa Gray, coordinator of the MBA Program for the Schneider School of Business and Economics
