Humans of St. Norbert:

“Being in three studio art classes at the same time [this past semester] was a lot. I put a lot of time into all of my projects. Last year, I would spend every spare hour I had in a day working on my projects for one studio art class so I was like, ‘How am I going to do that for three classes? I did not have enough time to do one class and now I have to do three.’ So that was a little overwhelming at times, especially when I would have projects due in multiple classes in the same week. I would have to get them all done at the same time which was challenging. A lot of late nights and long hours. Printmaking and drawing were the hardest ones to keep up with. Something that helped was having Professor Ries for all of my classes because she knew what I was doing and could be like, ‘I think it’s time for you to stop on this one. It’s okay, you don't need to do more.’

“I like the work that I do and doing a painting, drawing or project is something that I would rather do than studying for a vocab test or something like that. I think a lot of people think art and design isn’t hard work because it isn’t a stem major or something like that, but it’s still hard just in a different type of way. It’s definitely rewarding for me. I like to give my art away to other people. When I give it to people, they really like it and it has a big positive effect on them so it makes me feel good being able to give that feeling to them. So that’s another thing I like about doing a ton of art and it being my major.” – Rachel Stover ’23
