Greek

Everything old is new again

Our study of math and science, our understanding of the stars, and our intellectual foundation in history, philosophy, theater and poetry are all rooted in ancient Greece. St. Norbert College offers courses in Greek that will inspire you to dig deeper into the origins of our language, literature, modern systems of government, academia and even entertainment.

Our courses will introduce you to the Greek language through Attic Greek, the dialect that originated in Attica and is often called Classical Greek. You’ll learn basic grammar, syntax and vocabulary, and then you’ll study the world of Greek prose and poetry. Finally, you’ll explore how Christian thought is shaped by forms of Greek expression through your exploration of the New Testament and other early church writings.

Academic paths within Greek studies

At SNC, you can fulfill your core language requirement by completing Elementary Greek 1 and 2, or you can choose to continue your studies through our Intermediate Greek course. Please see the classical studies (CLAS) minor requirements webpage for information on faculty and for the retroactive credit policy for Greek language.
