Understand the future of technology

Computer science is a fast-growing and ever-changing field that enables its graduates to pursue a vast array of careers. At SNC, you’ll use computer science to analyze complex problems, develop solutions that use various algorithmic techniques including artificial intelligence and create software that implements your solution.

Our computer science students not only develop efficient and user-friendly software, but they are also able to determine software requirements, explain their solution and provide documentation for the finished project.  SNC’s rigorous liberal arts core curriculum supports you with a strong foundation in creative thinking, logic and problem-solving and it prepares you to communicate your ideas to others with various technical backgrounds.

Computer science is an expanding field that has a profound impact on our daily lives. Your coursework at SNC will help you develop an awareness of the cultural, social, legal and ethical challenges the industry faces now and in the future.

Academic paths within the major

You can tailor a computer science major to your interests by choosing one of the following concentrations: computer science, business information systems, game development (a Rize-supported program), or graphic design and implementation systems. Students can also pursue a secondary teacher certification in computer science.

Elevate your computer science education

You want a computer science degree program that incorporates state-of-the-art technology and teaching. SNC courses have laboratory components in which faculty work directly with students, demonstrating our commitment to hands-on, experiential learning. All computer science majors complete a semester-long individual project in our capstone course. These projects have included virtual reality, artificial intelligence algorithms and machine learning, eye-tracking technology, integrating Google maps into software, programmatically identifying text in images, 3D simulations, data analytics and a variety of mobile applications. Many SNC computer science majors further their experience via internships with companies such as Acuity, Georgia-Pacific and Thrivent Financial. Others take advantage of SNC’s study abroad program with computer courses in Ireland, Ecuador and Australia. Start thinking outside the box about your college experience!

NEW – Game development

With a concentration in game development, students will be better prepared to enter this highly competitive industry after graduation. And because the game development concentration is an option within the computer science major, students will open doors to the games industry as well as more traditional pathways, applying their passions while learning transferrable hard skills. You’ll develop technical skills, interact with a physics engine, build a fully functioning game and work on other large-scale projects.

Game development is a hybrid program offered in partnership with Rize, giving students scheduling flexibility.
