Pre-dental

Lead the future of dental health

Thinking about studying pre-dental — but you also want the solid foundation of a liberal arts education? Great idea! St. Norbert College’s science courses are framed within a rigorous liberal arts context, which is ideal for future dentists. You’ll leave SNC with solid skills in analysis, problem-solving and interpersonal communication, which will all help throughout your career in dentistry.

Academic paths within the program

You’ll be paired with a pre-dental advisor at SNC to ensure that your dental-school application meets or exceeds every requirement. Dental schools generally want applicants to have very strong backgrounds in biology and chemistry, so many of our pre-dental students major in these areas or in natural sciences.

Additionally, most students take the Dental Aptitude Test (DAT) between their junior and senior years. The DAT assesses your academic ability, scientific understanding, perceptual ability and quantitative reasoning. Passing it is a requirement for admission into dental school.

Elevate your pre-dental education

Get your start as a dental student by getting the most out of your classes. At SNC, our small class sizes mean that you’ll develop close relationships with your instructors. Many students leave SNC with extensive research experience and strong letters of recommendation because of relationships like these.

What’s more, SNC is one of the few private liberal arts colleges in the United States that feature an anatomy lab with cadavers available to undergraduates in pre-medical, dental and health fields. This accessibility gives you experience that other dental-school applicants won’t have.

Here’s more good news: You could earn a scholarship! As a pre-dental student at SNC, you may be eligible for the William Thiel Scholarship for students pursuing careers in medicine or the natural sciences.

  • SNC hosts lots of informational talks, panels and speakers that opened my eyes and gave me more information about what I’d be experiencing in different medical professions and schools. Highlighting guests in a variety of professions is especially beneficial for students who are still deciding, or don’t know much about the different areas of health care.

Your dental degree at work

A growing body of research shows the strong connection between oral health and overall health, and demand for qualified dentists has never been higher. While 80 percent of dentists choose to go into private practice in general dentistry, you have a number of different career and practice options with a D.D.S. degree. Dentists are so high in demand that many are able to choose the days and hours they’ll work, making the profession more flexible than many others.
