Project management

The art of getting stuff done

Whether it’s building a skyscraper, publishing a magazine, developing a new app or planning a moon landing, projects need shepherds to keep them on time, on target and on budget. These are project managers, who oversee a complex matrix of people and processes, making sure they all work toward goals and deadlines.

With a project management minor at Wisconsin-based SNC, you’ll acquire the tools and skills to do this challenging work. You’ll learn to construct detailed project plans that take into account scope, resource constraints and dependencies. You’ll discover how to ensure quality of execution for a given project and execute projects that adapt to changing circumstances. You’ll become fluent in technical aspects of project management like waterfall and agile methodologies, but also develop the interpersonal competencies and ethical grounding that ensure team success.

Academic paths with the project management minor

You can earn an undergraduate degree – Bachelor of Business Administration, for example – and minor in project management at SNC to add more skills to your résumé upon graduation. Your courses will take you through all stages of a project, from scope and planning to execution, change management and completion.

Project management is one of the minors at SNC that offers hybrid learning through our partnership with Rize. Core courses in the minor are taught by SNC faculty on the SNC campus. Some specialized courses are taught online by faculty from Rize-partner colleges and universities. Rize courses are offered asynchronously (recorded) to accommodate students’ class schedules.

Elevate your project management education

Upon completing courses to earn a project management minor, students will be eligible to sit for the CAPM® exam (Certified Associate in Project Management). This globally recognized certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI) is a significant career credential that will not only increase your employability but also broaden your professional opportunities.

The CAPM certification opens up opportunities for higher-level project management roles, higher salary, and the potential for international work. Moreover, achieving this certification demonstrates a commitment to the profession and signifies a solid foundation of knowledge that can be highly attractive to employers.

  • This [AmeriCorps] program looked the most interesting and I really liked the service opportunity and the freedom it offered. So I applied for a team leader role. There are four regions in the United States, and three of them asked to interview me. I think it was really my experience as a resident assistant, as well as falling back on some of St. Norbert’s values of communio and radical hospitality, that helped me come out on top.
