Leadership studies

Leaders are made at SNC

Do you want to empower people to do more than they thought possible? Are you looking to become an ethical and socially responsible leader ready to serve your community? At St. Norbert College, you’ll learn the leadership skills you need to serve others. Our minor in leadership studies will teach you communication skills, teamwork and critical thinking, making you more effective in your future career.

SNC inspires you to develop your own style of leadership. When you study leadership here, you’ll gain insight into theory, but you’ll also receive hands-on training that will help you build skills to excel in your career. Through our leadership courses, you’ll explore issues of ethics, gender, interpersonal and international dynamics and organizational behavior. All of our coursework has a strong ethical foundation. We’ll encourage you to experience leadership as a way to serve others.

Academic paths within the leadership studies program

At SNC, you can earn a minor in leadership studies by completing six courses from the leadership studies curriculum, including a capstone leadership course.

Elevate your leadership studies education

Developing strong leaders is an essential part of our mission at SNC. We offer a number of opportunities to put your leadership skills to work outside of the classroom, including our Emerging Leaders program, which focuses on engaging first-year students to prepare them for leadership roles, and our Student Leadership Conference — a day-long event held each spring.

Each year a number of our students are recognized for their service and leadership through our Norbertine Leadership and Service Awards program. Many of these awards offer scholarships. In addition, you may be eligible for the Leadership in Action Scholarship or the Sauter Family Leadership & Service Scholarship.

  • This [AmeriCorps] program looked the most interesting and I really liked the service opportunity and the freedom it offered. So I applied for a team leader role. There are four regions in the United States, and three of them asked to interview me. I think it was really my experience as a resident assistant, as well as falling back on some of St. Norbert’s values of communio and radical hospitality, that helped me come out on top.

  • If you think about your college experience and your first year, you can basically recreate yourself. Here I’ve figured out what is important to me, what I want to prioritize.
