Interdisciplinary arts

Broaden your mind with interdisciplinary arts

Do you want to create your own well-rounded program of art study with the support of professors and academic advisors? Curious about the interconnectedness among different forms of art? St. Norbert College cultivates artists who are fluent in varied methods of expression, and who see joy in the intersection of the arts. If you view the arts as an inclusive endeavor, then SNC could feel like a natural fit.

Academic paths within the major

Students in this major are encouraged to create their own customized path through the visual and performing arts, while ensuring individualized instruction from the art, music and theater studies disciplines. As an interdisciplinary arts major, you will:

  • Gain a strong command of interpretations of text in all its forms, and develop an understanding of how text affects art
  • Gain technical proficiency in aligned disciplines
  • Discover how the visual and performing arts disciplines are interrelated through history, theory and practice
  • Understand the process of artistic creation — from initial idea to final project to critique
  • Recognize your place in society, and understand how your creative output has the power to affect your community

Elevate your interdisciplinary arts education

SNC’s on-campus art galleries, performance venues and service-learning opportunities through community-engaged arts courses will show you new ways to engage with the arts. De Pere provides additional opportunities to explore arts and culture with local events, museums and artsy hot-spots. If you’re considering our interdisciplinary arts major, look into SNC’s study abroad programs for some fascinating options!

  • Some of the better-known music undergrad programs don’t take into account what having a faculty member work closely with you does for you. The nice thing about SNC is the faculty involvement. Who they are and how they teach is amazing. Because of them, I was able to grow a lot as a musician.

  • I got to illustrate a published children’s book! I was asked to illustrate the GLAD Camp book published through SNC, and it was something I’ve always wanted to do. I learned a lot working with the art director, like the best ways to draw certain elements and how to stage illustrations.
